Outboard motors are divided into two main categories, 2-stroke and 4 stroke outboard. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages and the type you get depends on the intended use. This guide helps the outboard motor is best for your type of boat.

2-stroke outboard

2-stroke engines are lighter and faster so when speed and acceleration are required, this would be the engine of choice. 2-stroke engines are generally cheaper and retain their value betterwhen it comes to resale. 2-stroke outboards are more than 80 years are related to spare parts easily so that repairs less disruptive. 4-stroke outboard

4-stroke engines are quieter, smoother and cheaper. Heavier with slower acceleration, they are usually chosen for lakes and rivers. With less pollutionand smoking are also environmentally friendly. If you are after a quieter, smoother ride, then the 4-stroke outboard engine is the best choice.

The mechanical differences between 2 and 4 stroke outboard

The terms "2 stroke" and "4 times" refer to the number of times the piston moves during one firing of the engine. In the 4-stroke engine, the four movements, or stroke are:

Intake: the intake valve open, the piston moves down allowing a mixture of air and fuel into the combustion chamber.

compression stroke: the piston moves the cylinder with the valves closed so that theair-fuel mixture is compressed.

Combustion stroke: With the valves still closed, the fuel is ignited by spark plug. The explosion pushes the piston down.

Corsa Exhaust: The exhaust valve opens and the piston moves upward to push the exhaust gases from the chamber, so that the process can be repeated.

In a 2-stroke engine, there are only two movements of the piston for each combustion, one up and one down:

Combustion stroke: Combustion of fuel drives the pistondown. When the piston moves down, making it an exhaust valve and intake of fuel in the cylinder wall exhaust allowed, and new air and fuel are drawn

compression stroke: As the piston moves up, it blocks the exhaust valve and intake of fuel and then compresses the air-fuel mixture. The candle lights up the air and fuel in order to move the piston down.

The entrance of the fuel and the exhaust valve in the cylinder wall, eliminating the need for valves andthe mechanism for opening and closing them, because the 2-stroke engines are built much easier.
