Allergies - How to Handle Mold and Your Dryer Exhaust Venting System

Allergies - How to Handle Mold and Your Dryer Exhaust Venting System

Exhaust System

Clothes Dryers are a great convenience in our modern day world. They make our lives easier and less complicated than our parents in the past who hung their clothes out to dry on the clothes line. Some people today do not even know what a clothes line is. If you do not, do a search on Google to find out what one is. This convenience is great but it does have a few flaws that very few people even know about. One of them is that they can create mold that can affect individuals with Asthma and Allergies. We will go into these flaws in this article.

If you notice that every time you dry a load of clothes the lint catcher is full of lint that needs to be emptied every other time. This is because it prevents the lint from blowing out the exhaust vent. The truth is, it does not catch all the lint and some goes outside and the rest deposits on the inside of the exhaust vent pipe. Generally, most of the deposits of lint will be where the bends or angles are in the pipe unless you have one of the old ribbed metal piping. The problem with these deposits is that no one ever cleans the pipe.

When was the last time you cleaned your dryer exhaust pipe. It slowly becomes a fire hazard and a mold factory over the years. Have you ever opened your dryer and smelled a musty odor? That musty and moldy odor is from when the wind backdrafts into the house from the outside. This is a common problem for most households. Besides the mold, a lot of house fires can originate from the house dryer exhaust. According to National Fire Protection Agency, dryer exhausts cause more than 10,000 house fires a year. Most of these incidents occur in homes and are the result of improper lint cleanup and maintenance. Fortunately, these fires are very easy to prevent.

In conclusion, it is important to maintain your dryer vent system to prevent mold and fires from happening. Having a licensed Duct Cleaning Company come and clean the dryer vent is a must and should be done on a regular basis. In fact, after reading this article, call a Duct Cleaning Company to clean your dryer exhaust out now. If not, you could be suffering from allergies due to backdrafting of your dryer vent into your home or the worst case scenario, a fire could start from your dryer vent exhaust.

Restaurant Exhaust Fan - Say No to Harmful Smoke

Restaurant Exhaust Fan - Say No to Harmful Smoke

Exhaust System

Are your chefs or cooks complaining you about the intolerable smells and smoke in the kitchen? Don't know what to do? Well, installing an exhaust fan in the kitchen of your restaurant can solve these problems easily. When you're purchasing a restaurant exhaust fan, you need to make sure of the following points:

Before purchasing, you need to consider the size of your kitchen. The size of the fan depends on the area where it will be installed. If it is a large kitchen then installing small fans would be of no use, and if it is a small kitchen, then a bigger model won't fit. Before purchasing, make sure that the space for installing the model is adequate. Every day a lot of frying or broiling goes on in the kitchen of a restaurant. These often produce harmful smoke that can be harmful for their health. A grease mist will cover the surface of your kitchen and ruin it. They can also leave permanent marks on the walls. Your kitchen will be packed with dangerous gases that cause breathing problems. An exhaust fan can take care of all these issues. Chefs have to cook a large amount of food everyday and the cooking releases a great amount of moisture in the air which makes the indoor air humid. If these gases can't go out of the kitchen it will cause serious health related problems like asthma, nausea, allergies, headaches, and skin rashes. Polluted air in the kitchen can also cause fungus, mildew, and mold spores that can cause serious health problems. It can also affect the color of the walls and the paints may peel and crack. As the owner of the restaurant, the safety of your employees is very important.

To avoid all these problems you need to install a restaurant exhaust fan that will drive out smoke and heat from the kitchen and will help to remove the moisture and odor easily. Since there are so many companies in the market, you will be spoilt for choice. The best way to find a good company is to go online. This way, you will be able check out customer feedback too.

What Exhaust Smoke Tells You About Your Engine

What Exhaust Smoke Tells You About Your Engine

Exhaust System

Most people cringe when they see identifiable smoke coming from their exhaust. Yes, it can be a bad sign, but it can also just mean there is a minor issue.

Let's humanize the car. The engine represents our internal workings. To evaluate them, we can just assess how we feel. We can then get an objective look by doing things like taking our temperature. Your car works much the same way. You may notice the engine misfiring or being unresponsive. One objective way to determine what is going on is to look at the smoke coming out the exhaust.

No Smoke

Obviously, this is the best possible result. It is also unrealistic. Even if you can't see anything, smoke is coming out. It has just been treated and lost its color. This is also why you never run the car in a closed space such as a garage. Very dangerous.

Black Smoke

Black smoke is feared by every car own. This is odd. Black smoke is actually the best visible smoke you want to see. It is not an indication there is a big problem with your engine. Instead, it usually means the air to fuel ratio is off and the car is running to rich. A tune up and new air filter will usually solve the problem.

White Smoke

White is a good color right? Not when it comes to engines. White smoke is the sign of the devil...at least for your bank account. White smoke usually means the engine is burning coolant. Yes, the coolant in your radiator system. This is the sign of a damaged head gasket, warped engine head or a cracked head. None of these are good developments and you are looking at an expensive repair. The damaged head gasket will not put you back too badly, but the word "cracked" associated with anything in your engine will.

Blue Smoke

Blue smoke means it is time to go back to bed. Blue smoke is usually a sign of problems down in the important parts of the engine block. We are talking cylinder, piston or valve problems. The blue smoke comes from the excessive burning of oil and generally is a bad sign. The problem is you usually have to rebuild the entire engine. If you just try to do a bit, the new parts may create a better seal. This will add pressure to the engine compartment and blow out other worn parts that were not replaced.

Your car is going to burn oil and smoke as part of the natural combustion process. Take it easy on the engine, keep your oil topped off and change your oil and oil filter as recommended by the manufacturer. This should help you avoid smoking problems.

Advantages of Installing an Inline Exhaust Fan

Advantages of Installing an Inline Exhaust Fan

Exhaust System

Inline Exhaust Fan is an electronic device that is used for the purpose of providing ventilation or boosting the airflow with minimal detectable noise. The main function of these devices is to improve the overall air quality in the house by removing the vapors that has been created due to use. They are best suited for being used in bathrooms where due to bathing and showering vapors are created which leads to the formation of moisture and later on results in stale odors and fumes. It can also be used in the kitchen for forcing out smoke and cooking vapors from the area. In most modern homes these units are being preferred over the noisy bathroom and kitchen fans.

The main advantage of installing these types of inline exhaust fans is they are a versatile system that provides multiple ventilation inlets to your kitchen, rooms and bathrooms. If you want to improve the overall indoor air quality of the rooms in your house, you can certainly install this low rate ventilation system with multiple inlets. If you have a big house having two or more bathrooms and kitchen, you can use this system for ventilating your bathrooms as well as kitchen. As these systems feature solid, commercial grade construction, they can be used for longer periods of time and are generally preferred over other types of exhaust fans.

Advantages of Inline Exhaust Fan
In case you need to replace you old bathroom fan with a new one, you can either go for a traditional ceiling-mounted bathroom fan or you can consider replacing it by installing an inline exhaust fan. For installing this system you do not need to mount it directly to the ceiling of the bathroom but it is placed at a distance from the bathroom, generally in the attic space. Some of the benefits of these units as compared to the traditional ones are discussed below.

Easy to Install - These units are easy to install and does not require enough space as well. Moreover, if at all it requires any kind of servicing and replacement of parts, it can be done in an easy to access area in your attic.

High Power - These units feature a powerful motor due to which it is packed with enough power to move significantly higher amount of air when compared to the commonly used bathroom exhaust fans.

Low Noise - As these units are placed away from the actual point of exhaust in the ceiling, you seldom get to hear ant kind of vibration from the fan and the noise that is created when it is working.

Multiple Exhaust Points - For large bathrooms, installing such type of system is suitable as you can easily create multiple exhaust points in the ceiling.
Cost Effective - By installing this system you provide a cost effective way of improving the overall indoor air quality of the bathrooms and kitchen.

Long Life - As these systems feature solid, commercial grade construction, they are rated for being used continuously and have a long life span, some of them even having lifetime warranties.

RV Generator Alert (Why You Should Avoid Home Made Exhaust Systems at All Costs!)

RV Generator Alert (Why You Should Avoid Home Made Exhaust Systems at All Costs!)

Exhaust System

What sparked my interests in the RV Generator issue? Two things actually, the first one was close to home. A good friend of mine, unbeknownst to himself had a carbon monoxide leak slowly seeping into his RV. After installing his rigged up exhaust system, he ran his air conditioning and other appliances off of the portable generator versus off of the RV power. One day as he was driving along, he inexplicably came down with an overwhelming headache and started feeling sick, the cabin felt like it was turning around in circles and he was having trouble thinking clearly. I believe the only thing that saved him was his military training and background. Once those symptoms flared up, he immediately pulled over and got his family out of that death trap on wheels.

They had the RV towed to a shop and tests were ran to determine if it was carbon monoxide poisoning or some other issue. When they fired up that generator and let it run, it set off the carbon monoxide detector after twenty minutes. An examination of his homemade system revealed that the integrity of the connector that tied the muffler and the exhaust system together was not properly sealed.

Had they let that RV generator run after they had parked, we'd most likely be reading about them on the Channel Five News. Please heed this warning carefully; avoid homemade RV generator exhaust systems at all costs! I have to be honest, being in the generator business, I have seen some pretty dangerous setups jimmy rigged. To this date I have yet to see or identify any homemade installation that meets reasonable standards for safely handling RV generator exhaust gases.

Unless you are a mechanical engineer, this is not a do it yourselfer project. The second thing that sparked my interest in addressing this matter is that every year more than a thousand people die in their sleep due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Don't take a chance and become one of them. When these accidents happen due to fumes from a portable generator or some other type of generator, rest assured the incident always finds its way across my desk. Many nights, I have pondered how different the outcome would have been had the person or family been educated on the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.

There are plenty of options available for those who would like to run their RV generator while parked. If you decide to use one, make sure that the installation is done to specs. Don't allow the person doing the install to cut corners or jimmy rig anything. I've seen people use common couplers and U-clamps to join the muffler from the generator to their exhaust system. A million times NO! I've watched them wrap duct tape around that connection, thinking that would seal it, once again, NO! If you're going to do it, have it done right. Remember, your life and the life of others is at stake.

And finally, don't learn this next lesson the hard way. One thing many of these do it yourselfers very rarely take into consideration is the hot pipe their exhaust system exposes others to. All it takes is a child or an unsuspecting adult to touch that piping, and you've got a potential lawsuit on your hands. My suggestion, if you're going to add an exhaust system to your RV generator, get it done professionally if at all possible. If not, use one of the pre-fabbed kits that are recognized by industry experts as being safe.

The Benefits of After Market High Performance Exhaust Systems

The Benefits of After Market High Performance Exhaust Systems

Exhaust System

Aftermarket exhaust systems are a great way of enhancing the performance of your car. Besides that can also be used for cosmetic purpose as well as to produce a beloved roaring and growling car sound which makes your car prominent and more prone of being noted by your friends.

The exhaust system acts just like a respiratory system of a man where the different gases produced by the working of the engine are provided a passage way or exit route through the exhaust tubing. When a man works out, the lungs helps in expelling out the carbon dioxide from the body and provides a departure platform. If the gas does not exit from the body we will suffocate and you know better what happens next.

So in order for an engine to work more efficiently, the best thing would be that exhaust piping are of larger diameter so gases exit more rapidly and there is less restriction for the gases to pass out. This benefit is what we gain when we replace a factory fitted stock exhaust system with an aftermarket sports exhaust system. Since they provide relatively a larger diameter piping, there is a less pressure of exhaust fumes which results in higher horse power but on the other hand a larger bore size of the pipe slows down the movement of the gases. So performance gain does not lies with fitting the biggest possible bore size pipe as it may result in the loss of low end torque, but an optimum size is suggested which definitely varies with the type of engine according to the RPM produced.

Another problem with the normal exhaust system is that they manufacture a crush bent exhaust tubing which means that there are spiral rings around the exhaust piping due to which the diameter remains uneven and restrictions for gases to pass through. On the other hand high performance exhaust system generally provide mandrel bent exhaust tubing where the diameter remains same all over the system.

So making the debate short, while replacing your standard one with a high performance sports cat back exhaust system, you should be considering the size of bore of exhaust tubing related to your engine specifications. Similarly one general tip of making the gases to exit with a greater velocity is that the the big pipes are connected with small pipes along the entire exhaust manifold are connected in a cone shape. This of course has some demerits too. Similarly if your exhaust system creates an unwanted sound, you can use aftermarket mufflers to kill it.
