Food Service & Hospitality Industries Proper Planning For Ventilation Systems

Food Service & Hospitality Industries Proper Planning For Ventilation Systems

Exhaust System

No doubt about it when it comes to ventilation and venting systems there are no shortage of vent hood types or options. Still when it comes down to function and functionality certain basic functions and considerations come into play. It all comes down in the end to a number of factors - specific use and needs, logistics and often cost.

When completing the workup for ventilation exhaust systems always remember that if the system is substandard and shortcuts are made for ease or cost - that it is no bargain in the end. After completion the whole exercise may be termed a waste and new management or owners may have to redo the whole system again - in addition to removal of the older system along with inconvenience and other costs. For example some time ago, and before the anti-tobacco stop smoking in public places craze - a donut shop chain opened up. Even though they did what they thought was a thorough workup job, a substandard ventilation system was planned for and installed. You would have thought that just the sight of customers and patrons smoking with their cup of coffee would have alerted the planners and designers to the need for more than basic ventilation system workup as part of their planning. Perhaps it was in retrospect was that the experience of their competitors led those firms to overcompensate with more than overcapacity of exhaust ventilation and that the crew doing the heating and cooling system planning did not notice the cigarette smoke fumes - as they had been reduced and eliminated to a low concentration due to the large scale systems in place.

Regardless the competitive donut shop group plowed ahead. The results were that even if staff at the donut shops propped open the front and rear doors with chairs - that you would of that the donut shop was in the middle of a major forest fire with plumes of smoke in the air. As a result the restaurants were not inviting to patrons, they stayed away. In addition winter heating and summer air conditioning costs were way above projections. In the end the chain packed up shop and closed.

In the end when dealing with heating and ventilation exhaust system planning and forethought are key.

Allergies - How to Handle Mold and Your Dryer Exhaust Venting System

Allergies - How to Handle Mold and Your Dryer Exhaust Venting System

Exhaust System

Clothes Dryers are a great convenience in our modern day world. They make our lives easier and less complicated than our parents in the past who hung their clothes out to dry on the clothes line. Some people today do not even know what a clothes line is. If you do not, do a search on Google to find out what one is. This convenience is great but it does have a few flaws that very few people even know about. One of them is that they can create mold that can affect individuals with Asthma and Allergies. We will go into these flaws in this article.

If you notice that every time you dry a load of clothes the lint catcher is full of lint that needs to be emptied every other time. This is because it prevents the lint from blowing out the exhaust vent. The truth is, it does not catch all the lint and some goes outside and the rest deposits on the inside of the exhaust vent pipe. Generally, most of the deposits of lint will be where the bends or angles are in the pipe unless you have one of the old ribbed metal piping. The problem with these deposits is that no one ever cleans the pipe.

When was the last time you cleaned your dryer exhaust pipe. It slowly becomes a fire hazard and a mold factory over the years. Have you ever opened your dryer and smelled a musty odor? That musty and moldy odor is from when the wind backdrafts into the house from the outside. This is a common problem for most households. Besides the mold, a lot of house fires can originate from the house dryer exhaust. According to National Fire Protection Agency, dryer exhausts cause more than 10,000 house fires a year. Most of these incidents occur in homes and are the result of improper lint cleanup and maintenance. Fortunately, these fires are very easy to prevent.

In conclusion, it is important to maintain your dryer vent system to prevent mold and fires from happening. Having a licensed Duct Cleaning Company come and clean the dryer vent is a must and should be done on a regular basis. In fact, after reading this article, call a Duct Cleaning Company to clean your dryer exhaust out now. If not, you could be suffering from allergies due to backdrafting of your dryer vent into your home or the worst case scenario, a fire could start from your dryer vent exhaust.

Restaurant Exhaust Fan - Say No to Harmful Smoke

Restaurant Exhaust Fan - Say No to Harmful Smoke

Exhaust System

Are your chefs or cooks complaining you about the intolerable smells and smoke in the kitchen? Don't know what to do? Well, installing an exhaust fan in the kitchen of your restaurant can solve these problems easily. When you're purchasing a restaurant exhaust fan, you need to make sure of the following points:

Before purchasing, you need to consider the size of your kitchen. The size of the fan depends on the area where it will be installed. If it is a large kitchen then installing small fans would be of no use, and if it is a small kitchen, then a bigger model won't fit. Before purchasing, make sure that the space for installing the model is adequate. Every day a lot of frying or broiling goes on in the kitchen of a restaurant. These often produce harmful smoke that can be harmful for their health. A grease mist will cover the surface of your kitchen and ruin it. They can also leave permanent marks on the walls. Your kitchen will be packed with dangerous gases that cause breathing problems. An exhaust fan can take care of all these issues. Chefs have to cook a large amount of food everyday and the cooking releases a great amount of moisture in the air which makes the indoor air humid. If these gases can't go out of the kitchen it will cause serious health related problems like asthma, nausea, allergies, headaches, and skin rashes. Polluted air in the kitchen can also cause fungus, mildew, and mold spores that can cause serious health problems. It can also affect the color of the walls and the paints may peel and crack. As the owner of the restaurant, the safety of your employees is very important.

To avoid all these problems you need to install a restaurant exhaust fan that will drive out smoke and heat from the kitchen and will help to remove the moisture and odor easily. Since there are so many companies in the market, you will be spoilt for choice. The best way to find a good company is to go online. This way, you will be able check out customer feedback too.

What Exhaust Smoke Tells You About Your Engine

What Exhaust Smoke Tells You About Your Engine

Exhaust System

Most people cringe when they see identifiable smoke coming from their exhaust. Yes, it can be a bad sign, but it can also just mean there is a minor issue.

Let's humanize the car. The engine represents our internal workings. To evaluate them, we can just assess how we feel. We can then get an objective look by doing things like taking our temperature. Your car works much the same way. You may notice the engine misfiring or being unresponsive. One objective way to determine what is going on is to look at the smoke coming out the exhaust.

No Smoke

Obviously, this is the best possible result. It is also unrealistic. Even if you can't see anything, smoke is coming out. It has just been treated and lost its color. This is also why you never run the car in a closed space such as a garage. Very dangerous.

Black Smoke

Black smoke is feared by every car own. This is odd. Black smoke is actually the best visible smoke you want to see. It is not an indication there is a big problem with your engine. Instead, it usually means the air to fuel ratio is off and the car is running to rich. A tune up and new air filter will usually solve the problem.

White Smoke

White is a good color right? Not when it comes to engines. White smoke is the sign of the devil...at least for your bank account. White smoke usually means the engine is burning coolant. Yes, the coolant in your radiator system. This is the sign of a damaged head gasket, warped engine head or a cracked head. None of these are good developments and you are looking at an expensive repair. The damaged head gasket will not put you back too badly, but the word "cracked" associated with anything in your engine will.

Blue Smoke

Blue smoke means it is time to go back to bed. Blue smoke is usually a sign of problems down in the important parts of the engine block. We are talking cylinder, piston or valve problems. The blue smoke comes from the excessive burning of oil and generally is a bad sign. The problem is you usually have to rebuild the entire engine. If you just try to do a bit, the new parts may create a better seal. This will add pressure to the engine compartment and blow out other worn parts that were not replaced.

Your car is going to burn oil and smoke as part of the natural combustion process. Take it easy on the engine, keep your oil topped off and change your oil and oil filter as recommended by the manufacturer. This should help you avoid smoking problems.

Use Online Fault-Detection/Vibration-Monitoring Systems to Save Commercial Vehicles!

Use Online Fault-Detection/Vibration-Monitoring Systems to Save Commercial Vehicles!

Exhaust System

Maintenance check-ups should be performed on just about any vehicle on a regular basis. A company should post suggested maintenance schedules to be followed so that problems can be minimized while a vehicle is in operation. Regular maintenance promotes safety and decreases the risk of workplace-related accidents.

Truck maintenance needs to be kept at a minimal level due to the effect it can have on the overall productivity of the equipment. To minimize maintenance and repairs, the concept of fault detection techniques have been developed to monitor the condition of the vehicle. The vibration monitoring technique can highlight potential mechanical problems and warn an operator in advance of equipment failures that might occur. This significantly improves the performance of the truck since it can prevent the machine from experiencing a period of downtime by preventing the potentially unpleasant consequences of its failure. When a vehicle is out of service due to downtime from a mechanical problem, this could have a drastic effect on any business operation.

Results of Years of Research

These systems reflect years of research into taking vibration signals from an operating piece of machinery, processing these signals into a useable format, using the signal to detect any possible fault, diagnosing exactly what the signal is showing in regards to the operation of the machinery and then presenting possible predictions for what can be done to correct this particular problem. This research has brought about a way to monitor, detect and diagnose all in one operation.

System Advantages

The vibration-based monitoring equipment has various critical parameters that are measured, such as speed, temperature, and pulsation, while the machine is in operation. The system will not predict failure but can give an operator an insight on what action may need to be taken in order to prevent any potential problems from happening before any critical damage occurs.

Another advantage of this system is that is allows for remote diagnosis of the information being gathered by specialists who can be located anywhere in the world. This means that the interpretative equipment can be located at a general headquarters for a company and monitored by specialists who can diagnose problems and then offer potential solutions to that problem.

System Design

Designing such a system requires an initial determination of where safety monitoring is needed in order to prevent any potential hazardous problems developing for the machine, the operator and/or the local environment where the equipment is being operated. Typically, such safety monitoring is again based upon any large change in vibration, temperature or shaft position especially when such a change could wind up resulting in the complete destruction of the part or even of the entire machine. Such detection might even require the complete shut-down of the machinery to prevent the hazards previously mentioned.

It is also important that this detection process can detect real problems and avoid any false alarm situations as much as possible; can easily interpret the data provided; and that such a process can be automated in some fashion. Analysis and diagnosis can be very time-consuming, particularly if it is performed by humans. Automated monitoring only requires human intervention about 1% of the time, leaving that type of critical diagnosis to the trained specialists.

Use of Obtained Information

Using the information provided, decisions then can be made which could include: re-starting of the machinery in case it was some type of error in the detection equipment; diagnosis of the problem that caused the vibration to be detected; and determining a way to avoid or rectify the problem in as short a time as possible to avoid undue down-time for the machinery.

A condition monitoring system can check the status of the gearbox, bearings and other vital components of the vehicle that are susceptible to damage. This technique uses vibration analysis to monitor the condition of the particular parts and could be very useful in forewarning an operator that a problem may occur therefore allowing time to determine if immediate repair is needed depending upon the result of the data generated by the system.

Failure of certain parts may develop gradually within the vehicle even if it is scheduled for regular maintenance check-ups. Undetected problems could still develop while the equipment is in operation for the business. In order to keep certain trucks from unnecessary mechanical failure, online fault detection or vibration monitoring equipment can be absolutely necessary in order to prevent potential damage and provide early detection of machine failure. These systems have been proven to be cost-effective since they have the inherent capacity to save thousands of dollars in unnecessary maintenance. Consider one of these unique devices for your important vehicles today!

Advantages of Installing an Inline Exhaust Fan

Advantages of Installing an Inline Exhaust Fan

Exhaust System

Inline Exhaust Fan is an electronic device that is used for the purpose of providing ventilation or boosting the airflow with minimal detectable noise. The main function of these devices is to improve the overall air quality in the house by removing the vapors that has been created due to use. They are best suited for being used in bathrooms where due to bathing and showering vapors are created which leads to the formation of moisture and later on results in stale odors and fumes. It can also be used in the kitchen for forcing out smoke and cooking vapors from the area. In most modern homes these units are being preferred over the noisy bathroom and kitchen fans.

The main advantage of installing these types of inline exhaust fans is they are a versatile system that provides multiple ventilation inlets to your kitchen, rooms and bathrooms. If you want to improve the overall indoor air quality of the rooms in your house, you can certainly install this low rate ventilation system with multiple inlets. If you have a big house having two or more bathrooms and kitchen, you can use this system for ventilating your bathrooms as well as kitchen. As these systems feature solid, commercial grade construction, they can be used for longer periods of time and are generally preferred over other types of exhaust fans.

Advantages of Inline Exhaust Fan
In case you need to replace you old bathroom fan with a new one, you can either go for a traditional ceiling-mounted bathroom fan or you can consider replacing it by installing an inline exhaust fan. For installing this system you do not need to mount it directly to the ceiling of the bathroom but it is placed at a distance from the bathroom, generally in the attic space. Some of the benefits of these units as compared to the traditional ones are discussed below.

Easy to Install - These units are easy to install and does not require enough space as well. Moreover, if at all it requires any kind of servicing and replacement of parts, it can be done in an easy to access area in your attic.

High Power - These units feature a powerful motor due to which it is packed with enough power to move significantly higher amount of air when compared to the commonly used bathroom exhaust fans.

Low Noise - As these units are placed away from the actual point of exhaust in the ceiling, you seldom get to hear ant kind of vibration from the fan and the noise that is created when it is working.

Multiple Exhaust Points - For large bathrooms, installing such type of system is suitable as you can easily create multiple exhaust points in the ceiling.
Cost Effective - By installing this system you provide a cost effective way of improving the overall indoor air quality of the bathrooms and kitchen.

Long Life - As these systems feature solid, commercial grade construction, they are rated for being used continuously and have a long life span, some of them even having lifetime warranties.

Cargo Heating Systems On Board Ships

Cargo Heating Systems On Board Ships

Exhaust System

Heavy fractions, such as fuel oil become very thick and sluggish when cold, and in order that such oils can be loaded and discharged without delay it is necessary to keep them heated. Today the oil trade is so vast and wide spread that the average oil tanker may be trading in the tropics one voyage and the Artic conditions in the next. It is therefore necessary that cargo heating systems be designed to cope with extreme conditions.

Due to the fact that a loaded tanker has comparatively little freeboard, the temperature of the seawater through which the vessel is passing is of major significance. Cold water washing around the ship's side, bottom and across the decks rapidly reduces the temperature of the cargo and makes the task of heating it much harder. Warm seawater, however, has the reverse effect and can be very useful in helping to maintain the temperature of the cargo with a minimum amount of steam. Steam is used to heat the oil inside ship's tank. It is piped from the boilers along the length of the vessel's deck. Generally the catwalk or flying bridge is used for this purpose.

The main cargo heating steam and exhaust pipes being secured to either the vertical or horizontal girder work immediately below the foot treads. At intervals, manifold is arranged from which the steam for he individual cargo tanks is drawn. Each tank has its own steam and exhaust valves, which enables the steam to be shut off or reduced on any of the tanks at will. Generally the main steam lines are well lagged, but it is obviously impractical to lag the individual lines leading from the manifold to the cargo tanks.

The heating arrangements in the actual cargo tanks consist of a system of coils, which are spread over the bottom of the tank at a distance of six to eighteen inches from the bottom plating. In wing tanks it is usual practice to extend the coil system as far as the turn on the bilge but not up the ship's side.

John Deere Parts - Aftermarket and Part Number Selection

John Deere Parts - Aftermarket and Part Number Selection

Exhaust System

John Deere parts for engines are provided for all major models, including the six (6) cylinders, and four (4) cylinder engines, for tractors, combines, harvesters, marine, excavators, wheel loaders, skid steers and other construction equipment.

John Deere Parts for engines needs to be identified as either for a non PowerTech engine or a PowerTech engine. This identification can best be done on the engine identification tag:- the engine is labeled as PowerTech.

Alternatively, an analysis of the serial numbers of the engines can determine is the engine is PowerTech or non-PowerTech. All John Deere engines manufactured in Torreon, Mexico, are PowerTech engines. The others have serial number breaks that determine this.

This factor is significant, as a 4045 engine can be either PowerTech or a normally aspirated non-PowerTech engine. Replacement parts for both can be significantly different, as both engines were designed for different applications and to different standards.

Engine parts can be either in the engine itself, or accessories to the engine, fitted to the external body of the engine.

John Deere Engine parts for overhaul kits are typically sold with pistons, piston pins, piston pin retainers, rings, liners (cylinders of sleeves), o ring kit, main bearings, connecting rod bearings, connecting rod bushings and bolts, rear crankshaft seal, front crankshaft seal, and thrust washers. The complete gasket overhaul set includes the head gasket set, lower oil pan set, and other gaskets for water pump, oil pump, hydraulic pumps, injector grommets, and exhaust manifold gaskets.

The external engine accessories can include the injectors, new, rebuilt or good used, crankshafts, oil pump, tachometer cable, exhaust manifold, timing chain gear, flywheel, ring gear, fuel lift pump, carb kit, gauges, sending units and sensors, and valve train kits.

Valve train kits includes exhaust valves, intake valves, valve seals, valve springs, valve intake guide, valve exhaust guide, and lock valves.

Some of the early John Deere engines were built for gas, as in the early tractors. Gas engine parts are sold aftermarket, as well as John Deere diesel engine parts.

Camshaft, rocker shafts, tappets, and rocker arm bolts are provided aftermarket. Connecting rods are sold new aftermarket, rebuilt, or good used.

Cylinder heads, glow plugs, cylinder blocks, short block, long block, short block, crankshaft gears, alternators, starters, fan belts, water pumps, and water pump kits are readily sold as aftermarket.

These engines are now manufactured in accordance with Tier 11 and Tier 111 EPA emissions standards. These are standards that were introduced gradually by the US EPA to reduce emissions/pollution from diesel combustion engines.

The choice of the correct replacement John Deere Parts for engines will depend on the information provided by the machine/engine owner. As a rule, the machine/engine serial number is not sufficient to select engine parts. John Deere engines are renowned for requiring the casting number that is embedded onto engine components. These include the piston, connecting rod, crankshaft, cylinder head, cylinder block, and water pump housings.

Notwithstanding the above, the machine serial number and the engine serial number are added pieces of information that are needed for correct component replacement.

RV Generator Alert (Why You Should Avoid Home Made Exhaust Systems at All Costs!)

RV Generator Alert (Why You Should Avoid Home Made Exhaust Systems at All Costs!)

Exhaust System

What sparked my interests in the RV Generator issue? Two things actually, the first one was close to home. A good friend of mine, unbeknownst to himself had a carbon monoxide leak slowly seeping into his RV. After installing his rigged up exhaust system, he ran his air conditioning and other appliances off of the portable generator versus off of the RV power. One day as he was driving along, he inexplicably came down with an overwhelming headache and started feeling sick, the cabin felt like it was turning around in circles and he was having trouble thinking clearly. I believe the only thing that saved him was his military training and background. Once those symptoms flared up, he immediately pulled over and got his family out of that death trap on wheels.

They had the RV towed to a shop and tests were ran to determine if it was carbon monoxide poisoning or some other issue. When they fired up that generator and let it run, it set off the carbon monoxide detector after twenty minutes. An examination of his homemade system revealed that the integrity of the connector that tied the muffler and the exhaust system together was not properly sealed.

Had they let that RV generator run after they had parked, we'd most likely be reading about them on the Channel Five News. Please heed this warning carefully; avoid homemade RV generator exhaust systems at all costs! I have to be honest, being in the generator business, I have seen some pretty dangerous setups jimmy rigged. To this date I have yet to see or identify any homemade installation that meets reasonable standards for safely handling RV generator exhaust gases.

Unless you are a mechanical engineer, this is not a do it yourselfer project. The second thing that sparked my interest in addressing this matter is that every year more than a thousand people die in their sleep due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Don't take a chance and become one of them. When these accidents happen due to fumes from a portable generator or some other type of generator, rest assured the incident always finds its way across my desk. Many nights, I have pondered how different the outcome would have been had the person or family been educated on the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.

There are plenty of options available for those who would like to run their RV generator while parked. If you decide to use one, make sure that the installation is done to specs. Don't allow the person doing the install to cut corners or jimmy rig anything. I've seen people use common couplers and U-clamps to join the muffler from the generator to their exhaust system. A million times NO! I've watched them wrap duct tape around that connection, thinking that would seal it, once again, NO! If you're going to do it, have it done right. Remember, your life and the life of others is at stake.

And finally, don't learn this next lesson the hard way. One thing many of these do it yourselfers very rarely take into consideration is the hot pipe their exhaust system exposes others to. All it takes is a child or an unsuspecting adult to touch that piping, and you've got a potential lawsuit on your hands. My suggestion, if you're going to add an exhaust system to your RV generator, get it done professionally if at all possible. If not, use one of the pre-fabbed kits that are recognized by industry experts as being safe.

This is the coolest Mugen aero dynamics kit I've ever seen! I have drove 3 stock CR-Zs so far, and honestly saying, CR-Z doesn't have the horse power as much as we all expected. It is still a 1.5L engine + alpha. But what this car brings is a fun-to-drive feeling, and one of the coolest styling of Honda's recent products. And this time, Mugen has done a really great job in brushing up the CR-Z without spoiling its original image. Give your truck more pulling power and much improved throttle response with an MBRP diesel exhaust system. MBRP's systems are so much more efficient, it will be easy to see what your truck can really do. The Benefits of After Market High Performance Exhaust Systems

The Benefits of After Market High Performance Exhaust Systems

Exhaust System

Aftermarket exhaust systems are a great way of enhancing the performance of your car. Besides that can also be used for cosmetic purpose as well as to produce a beloved roaring and growling car sound which makes your car prominent and more prone of being noted by your friends.

The exhaust system acts just like a respiratory system of a man where the different gases produced by the working of the engine are provided a passage way or exit route through the exhaust tubing. When a man works out, the lungs helps in expelling out the carbon dioxide from the body and provides a departure platform. If the gas does not exit from the body we will suffocate and you know better what happens next.

So in order for an engine to work more efficiently, the best thing would be that exhaust piping are of larger diameter so gases exit more rapidly and there is less restriction for the gases to pass out. This benefit is what we gain when we replace a factory fitted stock exhaust system with an aftermarket sports exhaust system. Since they provide relatively a larger diameter piping, there is a less pressure of exhaust fumes which results in higher horse power but on the other hand a larger bore size of the pipe slows down the movement of the gases. So performance gain does not lies with fitting the biggest possible bore size pipe as it may result in the loss of low end torque, but an optimum size is suggested which definitely varies with the type of engine according to the RPM produced.

Another problem with the normal exhaust system is that they manufacture a crush bent exhaust tubing which means that there are spiral rings around the exhaust piping due to which the diameter remains uneven and restrictions for gases to pass through. On the other hand high performance exhaust system generally provide mandrel bent exhaust tubing where the diameter remains same all over the system.

So making the debate short, while replacing your standard one with a high performance sports cat back exhaust system, you should be considering the size of bore of exhaust tubing related to your engine specifications. Similarly one general tip of making the gases to exit with a greater velocity is that the the big pipes are connected with small pipes along the entire exhaust manifold are connected in a cone shape. This of course has some demerits too. Similarly if your exhaust system creates an unwanted sound, you can use aftermarket mufflers to kill it.
